Definisi Recount Text
Mengutip definisi dari Oxford Learner’s Dictionary, recount is to tell somebody about something, especially something that you have experienced. Recount artinya menceritakan sesuatu yang pernah dialami kepada orang lain.
Secara umum, Recount Text dapat diartikan sebagai teks bacaan yang memuat cerita, tindakan atau rangkaian sebuah peristiwa atau pengalaman. Biasanya, konteksnya merujuk kepada kejadian di masa lalu. Pengalaman atau kejadian tersebut bisa saja dialami oleh satu orang atau lebih.
Recount Text dapat juga dimaksudkan untuk mengenang dan mengingat kembali suatu peristiwa di masa lalu lewat sebuah cerita. Adapun Recount Text itu sendiri bertujuan menghibur atau sekedar memberikan informasi kepada pembaca. Karena tujuannya untuk menghibur, maka teks ini sepatutnya tidak berisi konflik atau permasalahan serius.

- Menggunakan kata kerja [Verb] yang merujuk pada masa lampau, seperti simple past (went/was bored), pasts continuous (was/were driving), past perfect (had arrived) atau past perfect continuous (had been living).
- Menggunakan kata keterangan waktu [Adverb of time] di masa lalu, seperti a year ago, last year, the past few weeks, or in 1990).
- Menggunakan kata penghubung [conjunction], seperti before, after, and, therefore, but, etc.)
Struktur Recount Text
- Introduction (Pembukaan): pada tahap awal cerita dijelaskan secara umum mengenai latar cerita, yang terdiri dari waktu dan tempat kejadian. contoh recount text singkat pada pembukaan adalah:

- Event (Isi): pada tahap ini dijelaskan bagaimana suatu peristiwa dapat terjadi secara mendetil, meliputi informasi-informasi yang disampaikan secara spesifik tentang apa (what), bagaimana (how), siapa (who), kapan (when), dan dimana (where) saja peristiwa tersebut dapat terjadi.

Penutup dapat berisi pengulangan cerita yang dirangkum secara singkat, namun dapat juga ditambahkan dengan saran dan nasihat jika dianggap perlu.

When we first arrived at a hotel in Bali during a summer holiday, we received a welcome dish, such as soda drink and some quick meals. The hotel that we booked for three days offers a beautiful sea view right at the front and a mountain sight at our back. At the next, after having one-night full of rest, in the morning we tried to enjoy some watersports, such as jet ski, banana boat, snorkeling, diving or surfing. In the evening, we enjoyed a dinner with sea food cuisine and other sea dishes. They all tasted incredibly delicious because all the food was freshly caught from the sea. My 3-day and 2-night stayvacation in the hotel was obviously memorable.
